BRTC Gunsmithing Degrees and Certificates

BRTC's program has many unique features.

Viper International

The BRTC Gunsmithing program partners with Viper International who designs new items for the distance shooter. BRTC gunsmithing students have the opportunity to test new products and provide feedback on product design. In return, students have access to significant discounts on Viper products, including receiving products with BRTC’s logo on them. Viper’s research and development partnership is exclusive to BRTC.

Common Concerns

Guns are always a controversial topic and while every institution must fully consider the importance of implementing a new program, student, employee, and community safety is by far the most important concern.

This section is a reference to address potential concerns regarding the creation of a gunsmithing program at BRTC. While BRTC believes collaboration between a gunsmithing program and its existing Law Enforcement Training Academy is essential and will minimize potential problems, the college feels it is important to examine all potential concerns.

Why Gunsmithing

Gunsmithing is truly an art form. Gunsmiths are required to design, build and repair firearms. In many cases, gunsmiths have to remake old pieces which are no longer available for purchase or are too expensive to buy new.

Machining skills are essential to this process as well as for drilling holes, mounting scopes and other accessories, and threading barrels. Gunsmiths frequently use their welding skills to join parts or even make extensive repairs to firearms.

Reasons Gun Owners Own Guns

According to a Pew Research article, gun owners have a variety of reasons for owning their firearms.
