Black River Technical College Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Brad Baine and Director of Career, Technical, and Concurrent Education Darenda Kersey recently gave presentations at the Jonesboro Rotary Club.
Baine presented historical background on BRTC and the mission of the college. He also presented the outstanding academic programs offered at BRTC including LETA, nursing, EMT, fire science, machine tool technology, autobody, gunsmithing, auto service, welding, industrial electricity, robotics and automation. He spoke about the finances of BRTC and the affordability and quality of education BRTC offers.
“BRTC is known for training heroes and creating craftsmen,” Baine told the rotary members.
Kersey presented information about the career, technical, and concurrent programs offered to juniors and seniors in high school, including the Arkansas Teacher Residency Program that lets students begin working toward a career in education in K-6 as early as a junior in high school.
Classes are online and the Arkansas Concurrent Challenge scholarship can be used to cover the tuition. The class is also available to traditional students, specifically targeting Para pros already working in a school district.
She also spoke about the new satellite location of The Armory at BRTC in Piggott that will be up and running in August. Programs offered there will include welding, industrial electricity/electronics, and industrial automation/robotics.
