Top Cadets Honored at BRTC’s Fall 2021 Law Enforcement Training Academy Graduation

POCAHONTAS, AR Nov. 17— Black River Technical College’s Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) held its Fall 2021 graduation ceremony on Friday, November 12 for the 47 officers who completed the Basic Police Training Course.

Jami Cook, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Public Safety and Director of the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST), addressed the graduating class during the ceremony held in the Randolph County Development Center on the Pocahontas campus.

After Cook’s address, the top LETA cadets from class 2021B were recognized. Calvin Ramirez of the Mountain View Police Department earned the Top Overall Award, which is obtained by having the highest overall average in the areas of academics, firearms, and physical fitness.  Michael Dunne of the Independence County Sheriff’s Office earned 2nd in this category, and Stephen Williford of the Arkansas Highway Police earned 3rd.

Top Physical Fitness awards went to Cameron Harrison of the Jonesboro Police Department, 1st; Christian Ramirez of the Hot Springs Police Department, 2nd; and Stephen Williford, Arkansas Highway Police, 3rd.

The Top Academic awards went to Calvin Ramirez, Mountain View Police Department, 1st; Michael Haven Jr., Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism, 2nd; and Lillie Commons, North Little Rock Police Department, 3rd.

Top EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) students were Travis Keele of the Sherwood Police Department, 1st; Carlos Young II of the Sherwood Police Department, 2nd; and Richard Potter of the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, 3rd.

Matthew Maughan of the Hot Springs Police Department, firing at a 98.6% accuracy, earned the top Firearms Award; Michael Dunne of the Independence County Sheriff’s Office, firing at a 96.6% accuracy, earned 2nd place; and Calvin Ramirez of the Mountain View Police Department, firing at a 96.2% accuracy, earned 3rd place.
