Student Organizations & Activities

BRTC recognizes two categories of student organizations: Institutional Organizations and Registered Student Organizations. Both contribute to a vibrant, inclusive campus culture, while maintaining distinct operational structures and expectations.

Institutional Organizations

Institutional Organizations are created, sponsored, and supported by BRTC to advance College programs, leadership development, and student engagement initiatives. They represent official extensions of the College and are supervised by designated institutional advisors.

  • Student Government Association (SGA) - SGA is a standing shared-governance committee of the College, operating under the Vice President of Student Affairs and the Director of Student Development. It serves as the liaison between the student body and College administration and represents student interests in institutional decision-making.
  • Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) - PTK is the officially recognized honor society of Black River Technical College and is categorized as an Institutional Organization, not a Registered Student Organization. PTK is the sole internationally recognized honor society serving associate-degree students, and BRTC sponsors its chapter in recognition of PTK’s academic mission and national standing.

Registered Student Organizations

Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) are student-created, student-led, and student-controlled groups recognized by the College but not sponsored as institutional programs. RSOs allow students to engage in social, academic, cultural, service, and interest-based activities that enhance the co-curricular experience.

  • For a current list of Registered Student Organizations, please reach out to the Director of Student Development.

Additional information pertaining to Student Organizations at BRTC is listed in the BRTC Student Handbook.

Student Legacy Projects

Under the direction of SGA, Student Legacy Projects utilize funds from the collection of the student activity fee and allocates them to a project that will enhance the BRTC student experience for many years to come.

Students work with college leadership for suggestions of project then the student body votes on which project they want funded.  All projects are designed to address student suggestions, feedback, and interests.
