New Side-by-Side purchased for Agri Program with NSF Grant

POCAHONTAS, AR  June 28 – Black River Technical College purchased a side-by-side to be used for precision agriculture.  National Science Foundation (NSF) funds were used to purchase the vehicle through Jamey Sullinger from Pocahontas Outdoors.

The side-by-side will give students the ability to get out of the classroom and into fields for real world experience.  They will use the vehicle to collect soil samples, learn about variable rate technologies, and collect spatial data of fields.  Through these activities, students will learn how to keep accurate records for management and make management decisions to better improve field characteristics.

BRTC agriculture instructor Shauna Throesch is excited to use the vehicle in her classes.  The side-by-side “will help bridge the gap from classroom to field experience,” she said.
