Mathews Named Assistant District Governor of the Year

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Admissions Counselor Erin Mathews was recently honored as Assistant District Governor of the Year.

“It was a total shock,” Mathews said, “I had no idea this was an option.”

Mathews became assistant district governor of Area 2 in 2023 and will serve a three year term.

Matthews became a member of the Pocahontas Rotary in April 2014.  She served as president in 2018-2019. She then served as President-elect of the Lawrence County Rotary in 2023-2024.

In July 2019, she was appointed to the Membership Facilitator Team by Governor John C. Deacon, and in 2020, Matthews was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award. The Paul Harris Fellow Award, the highest honor given in Rotary, is presented to a Rotarian or a community member who made an outstanding contribution to the community.

As Assistant Governor, Matthews serves as the liaison between clubs and between clubs and district leadership. She is tasked with offering support, ideas, and guidance to clubs in her area as well as finding resources for them through Rotary International.

She is a resident of Maynard, AR, and lives on the family farm established in 1892 by her Great Grandfather, Jess N. Kerley.

According to rotary.org, assistant governors are the connection between clubs and the district. The relationships built with club leaders make Rotary stronger.
