Guest Speaker Peter Feigl is to be Joined by Arkansas PBS for BRTC Holocaust Survivor Series

Black River Technical College, in cooperation with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, annually hosts the BRTC Holocaust Survivor Series.  This important event brings a survivor and his or her story of the Holocaust to BRTC\’s service area via Zoom. Presentations are free and open to the public.

Survivors provide first-hand accounts of their struggles while personally experiencing the atrocities of the Holocaust. Past survivors have been held prisoner in concentration camps, and others have been imprisoned in the Ghetto in Warsaw, Poland. Still, others have related their stories of being refugees to countries including France, Switzerland, and the United States. This year, we will hear from Peter Feigl, who was born in Germany and survived in hiding in France with the help of Quakers and residents of a predominantly Protestant village called Le Chambon.

Holocaust history raises important questions about what Europeans could have done to stop the rise of Nazism in Germany and its assault on Europe’s Jews. Questions also must be asked of the international community, including the United States. What did the US government and the American people know about the threats posed by Nazi Germany? What responses were possible? And when?

We are fortunate that Arkansas PBS will also be joining us for this special event to connect the audiences of the Holocaust Survivor Series to THE U.S. AND THE HOLOCAUST, a new three-part documentary directed and produced by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein that explores America\’s response to one of the greatest humanitarian crises in history. The film was partially inspired by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum\’s Americans and the Holocaust: A Traveling Exhibition for Libraries that will be at the University of Arkansas Libraries in Fayetteville, AR from Nov. 10 to Dec.
