BRTC’s Phi Theta Kappa Advisor Honored

Ashley Hankins and Dr. Martin Eggensperger

PARAGOULD, AR April 5— Ashley Hankins, BRTC’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Advisor, was recently presented a 10-year service pin by the college’s president, Dr. Martin Eggensperger.

Hankins has served as Black River Technical College’s Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society Advisor since 2010. BRTC’s Beta Delta Phi Chapter has been internationally recognized as a 5-Star Top 100 Chapter.

PTK recognizes the academic achievement of college students and provides opportunities for its members to grow as scholars and leaders. Established in 1918, PTK has a presence on almost 1,300 community college campuses in 11 nations. The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) has recognized PTK as the official honor society for two-year colleges since 1929.

Hankins earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from Arkansas State University. She also holds an Ed.S in Community College Teaching from Arkansas State University. Hankins began her career at BRTC in the fall of 2009 as an English instructor. She recently accepted the position of Instructional Designer in the Distance Education Department. Hankins states, “It has been an honor to work with Phi Theta Kappa all of these years. Through PTK I have been able to meet and listen to Story Musgrave, Neil deGrasse Tyson, John Legend, Billie King, Daveed Diggs, and many others. But by far my favorite part of being a PTK advisor has been working with students as they develop the pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship and seeing how PTK has transformed their lives when they become involved in all the organization has to offer.”
