BRTC\’s Brittany Milligan a Longtime Fair Board Member

Black River Technical College works hard to support the community and many of its employees are very involved in community activities.  Brittany Milligan, BRTC Library Technician, has volunteered with the Randolph County Fair Board for 24 years.

Milligan began volunteering at the age of 7 because her grandfather, Doug Hutsell, was on the board.  Each year afterwards, working with the fair board became a family tradition.  In the beginning, she did whatever was needed such as painting, raking, cleaning out stalls and buildings, and running errands during the fair.  When she was 11, she became a part of the Junior Fair Board until she was old enough to officially join.  However, around 2010, too few kids were interested in the board and the Junior Fair Board died out.  Brittany, however, kept on volunteering.

Around the age of 19, she became a member of the full board.  In June 2015, she was asked to be the secretary/treasurer, a position she still holds today.  As secretary/treasurer, she takes care of the paperwork, most of the advertising, the website, and the Facebook page.  She is also in charge of tallying the points, determining point worth, printing checks for the awards, and the annual audit.

“I volunteer because I love getting to see the community smiling and having fun during the week of the fair,” Milligan said.  “We have a huge number of volunteers who we would never get by without!”

The Randolph County Fair Board is composed of 12 members including Brittany and her wife Angela Milligan who has been on the board since 2016 and also works at BRTC.  The Randolph County Fair begins on Monday, August 29 and ends on Saturday, September 3.  Notable events are as follows:
