BRTC TOPSS Students Visit Pocahontas Aluminum

Dec. 18 — Part of the experience students in the BRTC Technical Opportunities and Pathways for Secondary Students (TOPSS) program enjoy is visiting businesses and industries which utilize the skills students are learning.

Ruth Lamborn and Ridge Utley, BRTC TOPSS students enrolled in the welding program, recently toured Pocahontas Aluminum.  Students learned about the various welding jobs the factory employ and were able to watch a robot welder at work.

Black River Technical College’s Technical Opportunities and Pathways for Secondary Students (TOPSS) is a free program which enables high school juniors and seniors to get a head start on a career after high school.  Students can graduate with their high school diploma as well as with a BRTC degree, ready to go right into the workforce.  Juniors and seniors at participating high schools are eligible to apply for the program.
