BRTC to Offer Hunting Course through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission

POCAHONTAS, AR May 17—Through a partnership with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), Black River Technical College will offer a for-credit Introduction to Hunting course in Fall 2022.

During the course, students will complete the AGFC’s Hunter Education Course, learn how to safely discharge a firearm, participate in multiple hunts for wild game species, learn how to field dress and clean harvested game, and learn how to prepare wild game dishes. Students will also learn about the role they play in society as a consumptive user.

Dr. Brad Baine, Vice President for Academic Affairs, adds, “Black River Technical College (BRTC) is excited to partner with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), to educate individuals and increase interest in hunting. By offering an introductory course in hunting, students will have an opportunity to earn academic credit, and learn correct and safe practices for lifelong hunting. While this introductory course is for students who do not have prior hunting experience, BRTC and AGFC are continuing to discuss and address additional needs of the communities we serve. It is always great to partner with quality agencies and combine resources so we can efficiently serve our communities while being good stewards of the funding we are provided by the public.”
