Members of Black River Technical College’s Students Affairs Department recently attended the Arkansas Student Affairs Association (ArSAA) Spring Drive-In in Hot Springs, a student affairs conference dedicated to sharing information on how to best serve students during the admission and advising processes.

Erin Mathews, admissions counselor; Dr. Zachary Singleton, academic advisor; and Mark Towell, academic counselor, gave a presentation entitled “Students Come First.” The presentation emphasized teaching students about the admissions and advising process and the importance of building great relationships with students.

“We all get burnt out and need to be reminded of what our true goal is,” Singleton said. He said students need to know that there will always be someone on campus they can count on, there is no such thing as a bad question, and students will never be talked down to.
