The Black River Technical College (BRTC) Food Pantry recently received over 800 pounds of chicken from a donation by Peco Foods, Inc., in Pocahontas, AR.
The donation came as a “Thank You” to BRTC. After being damaged by a tornado on March 14, Peco was forced to temporarily shut down. BRTC offered space on the Pocahontas campus for the Peco Human Resources Department to set up and help any of their employees impacted by the storm.
“It’s amazing to see our community come together and help each other in times of need,” Christina Derbes, Dietetics Instructor and Food Pantry Manager, said. Derbes also said the chicken was a tremendous help and many students have already benefited from the donation.
The BRTC Food Pantry is located in the Joe R. Martin building on room JRM 100 on the Pocahontas campus. To receive food from the food pantry students must complete an application and produce a current BRTC Student I.D. The food pantry accepts food items with a long shelf life, as well as baby formula, diapers, personal hygiene products, and monetary donations via PayPal. The donation box can be found in the Joe R. Martin building lobby.
