Black River Technical College’s (BRTC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter inducted 28 members in the Spring of 2023. Fifteen inductees were present to receive the honor of induction at the ceremony held Tuesday at the Randolph County Development Center.
Students inducted were Susannah Abshier of Brookland, Marshayla Anderson of Jonesboro, Shelby Banks of Corning, Hannah Birdsong of Pocahontas, Justin Bradford of Paragould, Krystian Carr of Doniphan, MO, Krystina Compton of Jonesboro, AR, Hanna Duff of Walnut Ridge, Ethan Foster of Jonesboro, Selina Gonzales of Paragould, Jonathan Jenkins of Corning, Bobbi Lee of Pocahontas, Clayton Liebhaber of Pocahontas, Sheryll Luna of Brookland, Ashley McClish of Cardwell, MO, Kevin Micheli of Jonesboro, Brandi Middleton of Ravenden, Alicia Murray of Conway, Breann Polston of Jonesboro, Sara Roland of Marmaduke, Lyndsi Schrader of Manila, Stephen Simmons of Paragould, Stephanie Spencer of Paragould, Ashley Stover of Biggers, Dylan Tate of Powhatan, Dalton Wallace of Batesville, Ashley Williams of Brookland, and Daniel Worden of Alton, MO.
Dean of General Studies was present to give a speech and recognize the hard work of all the inductees. Officers were recognized and presented medallions. Officers include President Marshayla Anderson, Co-Vice Presidents of Scholarship Justin Bradford and Brandi Middleton, Co-Vice Presidents of College Project Ashley Stover and Ashley Williams, and Co-Vice Presidents of Community Service Ashley McClish and Krystina Compton.
“The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among associate degree students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunities for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate to exchange ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. Phi Theta Kappa has been recognizing academic achievement in two-year colleges since 1918. It is the only internationally acclaimed honor society serving institutions which offer associate degree programs. Membership is given added significance by the fact that the society is recognized by the American Association of Community colleges as the official general honor society for two-year colleges. Our local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is Beta Delta Phi,” said PTK advisor Rachel Koons.
PTK was established in 1918. It recognizes college students’ academic achievements and provides opportunities for its members to grow as scholars and leaders. Membership requires at least 12 hours of coursework toward an associate or at least six hours of coursework toward a one-year certificate with a 3.5 GPA. Members have access to more than $90 million in scholarships, including $37 million in transfer scholarships from 750 four-year universities.
