BRTC Invites Students and Community to Suggest a BRTC Mascot

POCAHONTAS, AR  Nov. 19, 2019 – Black River Technical College is excited to announce it has began the search for a mascot to represent the college and invites the local community and BRTC faculty, staff, students, and alumni to submit ideas.

“Mascots have been utilized by colleges and universities for many decades to build both student body pride and increase brand awareness,” said Jason Smith, BRTC vice president of enrollment management.  “The BRTC Student Government Association (SGA) has long expressed an interest in selecting a mascot.  Based upon the results over 130 student petitions, BRTC SGA officers voted to adopt and fund a mascot through their first-ever formal SGA resolution.”

Mascot submissions will be accepted until November 30, 2019, at midnight, and individuals may submit as many ideas as they wish.  To submit a mascot, visit http://blackrivertech.org/mascot.

“We are really excited to begin the search for a mascot,” said Ann Savage, BRTC director of marketing.  “A college mascot will help us with our branding and provide something tangible around which the community can support.”

After November 30, a committee will narrow the submissions down to 3-5 representative choices.  From that list, the pubic, students, and faculty and staff will be able select one.

The final selection will be officially approved by a committee led by BRTC President Dr. Martin Eggensperger.  The spring semester will be spent designing and creating the mascot logo and costume.

The final mascot, logo design, and costume will be revealed the week of August 17-21, 2020, the first week of fall classes.
