BRTC Hosts FBLA District Competitions

Students Competing in District II FBLA Event

POCAHONTAS, AR Mar. 16 – BRTC recently hosted the Middle Level and Senior Level District II FBLA competitions. Students from Randolph, Clay, Greene, Lawrence, Independence, Jackson, Craighead, Poinsett, Cross, Crittenden, St. Francis, and Mississippi counties were on the Pocahontas campus for the competitions.

Students competed in Accounting, Advertising, Business Management, Cyber Security, Economics, Journalism, Parliamentary Procedure, Public Speaking, Marketing, Web Design and several other event categories that prepare students for successful careers in business. Donna Statler, Dean for General Studies, served as a judge for the Publication Design category; Shauna Throesch, Agriculture Instructor, served as a judge for the Introduction to Event Planning and Hospitality and Event Management categories; and Regina Moore, Director of Distance Education, served as a judge for the Digital Video Production category. Dr. Brad Baine, Vice President of Academic Affairs, emceed the awards ceremony.

Darenda Kersey, Director of Career, Technical, and Concurrent Education, states, “It was wonderful to see so many high school students on the BRTC campus, many for the very first time! As a past business teacher and FBLA advisor myself, I know firsthand that FBLA is an amazing student organization. It provides students with so many opportunities and real-world lessons. We have already put a date on the 2023 calendar to host the event again next year.”
