Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently hosted the third annual First Horizon Lecture Series featuring award-winning author and investigative journalist George Jared.
Jared opened with one of the most infamous Arkansas murder cases: The West Memphis Three. He spoke about covering the story at the time and how he felt the police mishandled the case. He also spoke about who he suspected to be the true murderer.
He also spoke about Rebekah Gould’s case. Gould’s and Jared’s stories first intertwined during the search for her in 2004. He was employed as a journalist in the area at the time and was covering his beat when her body was found by local police. Years later he joined a cold case investigative team to work on her case again. Her murderer was sentenced to 40 years at a trial last year.
Jared closed by talking about many of the famous people he’s interviewed over the years including Barbara Eden, Butch Patrick, and several politicians.
