Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently held a Mental Health Awareness session during the college’s Convocation week. This session, lead by Director of Student Development Dane Dillion, updated faculty and staff with standard procedures on how to handle student affected by mental illness and how to handle students dealing with a mental health crisis.

Dillion started the session by reminding faculty and staff of his role and the part he plays when it comes to handling students in a mental health crisis. He showed faculty and staff their roles and gave them signs to look for when a student may be struggling with mental illness or thoughts of suicide. He finished the mental health portion of the session by listing the correct chain of communication for everyone to use when concerned about students and covering BRTC’s Emergency Action Plan for students in a crisis.
