BRTC CTC Students Tour Pocahontas Aluminum

Career, Technical, and Concurrent (CTC) students in the welding and industrial electricity programs toured Pocahontas Aluminum on Nov. 11.

Plant manager Ken Akins showed the students the complete manufacturing process of doors, from raw materials to finished products, including manufacturing of both windows and doors. Students also watched robotic welders and automation, which is becoming a more common component within factories.

“Students were able to see manufacturing jobs right here in Pocahontas,” Director of Concurrent, Technical and Concurrent Education Darenda Kersey said. It’s important for the students to see, “how the skills they are learning in their technical programs are put into place within the workforce,” she added.
