Black River Technical College (BRTC) is pleased to announce the newest addition to its Pocahontas location, an art piece inspired by art within the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
BRTC Career and Technical Center (CTC) Students, mostly concurrent students (students enrolled in technical courses while still attending high school), worked on this piece for multiple semesters.
BRTC Welding Instructor Rickie Gunn’s MIG welding class shaped the metal into the desired word and welded the pieces together. “We don’t have a metal bender, so it all had to be done by hand and the “O” was a killer,” said Gunn. He added that the students made three different versions of the piece before settling on the finished product.
After the welding CTC students finished with the artwork it was taken to the Auto Body shop where Automotive Collision Instructor Larry “Butch” Dail’s Autobody CTC students painted it finishing out the design.
It is now sitting beside the Richard Gaines Business Technology building, while awaiting a pedestal to be made for it to sit on at its final home on campus, which will be near the CTC program buildings.
