BRTC CTC Students Attend Be Pro Be Proud Draft Day

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Career and Technical Center (CTC) students attended Draft Day at Nettleton High School recently at the last stop on the Be Pro Be Proud Statewide Draft Day Tour.

Draft Day brings graduating seniors together with companies looking for new talent.

Thirty-four seniors had the opportunity to interview with multiple companies including, but not limited to, Hytrol, Nucor, Riceland, Greenway Equipment, Frito Lay, Ritter Communications, and St. Bernard’s Medical Center.

Trinity Rail Recruiter Leslie Lavender interviewed one senior who had exactly what they are seeking. “This student specifically had Black River [Technical School] experience learning how to weld, and that’s exactly what we are looking for,” Lavender said. “We are looking for welders and students who truly care, want to show up to work, and those looking for a true career path,” according to KAIT8 news.

The CTC students have spent the last several months preparing for this event with resume and interview prep sessions.

\”Draft Day was a great learning experience. I got to interview with several large companies,” said Walnut Ridge High School Senior/BRTC CTC Industrial Electricity student Jack Cain. “ It was a great opportunity!\”

“Several of the students have already gotten a call back requesting they come in for a weld test at Best Manufacturing, while others are anxiously awaiting a possible job offer,” said Director of Career, Technical, and Concurrent Education Darenda Kersey.
