BRTC CTC Student Spotlight: Aaron Mauldin

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Career and Technical Center (CTC) student/Piggott High School senior Aaron Mauldin spent the summer working for Legacy Equipment in Piggott.

Last year while Mauldin was attending the CTC program on the BRTC Paragould campus, two Legacy Equipment representatives, Whitney Watson and Daniel Vaughn, spoke to CTC students about Legacy Equipment internships and the John Deere Ag Tech program, which piqued Mauldin’s interest.

After the presentation Mauldin spoke with the representatives. “I asked for an application and they handed me one right there. About a month later they contacted me and asked when I could start,” he said.

Two days after he finished the 2023 spring semester Mauldin began working at Legacy as a service technician. “It’s a very fulfilling job and it’s easy to follow along,” Mauldin said. “It’s very hands-on, so you learn as you do, which I really like. They also worked around my schedule and I very much enjoy the people I work with.”

Mauldin said he chose the BRTC CTC program, “because I was intrigued by the possibilities it held and how many doors could be opened. I most like that BRTC has great courses and they help you set and achieve your own goals as much as possible, as well as helping you with networking and getting your foot in the door to gainful employment.”

So far, he has taken courses in machine tool technology and welding in the BRTC CTC program, which he will finish in the 2023-2024 academic year, giving him the opportunity to fast-track to a high-wage, high-demand job straight out of high school.

When Mauldin isn’t in CTC courses or working at Legacy, he can be found working out in the gym at PHS, playing Mohawk football as a wide receiver and linebacker, competing in track competitions of discus and shot put, or working on his 2003 F-250 diesel truck and a variety of small engines.
