BRTC CTC Hosts Clay County Electric Guest Speakers

Clay County Electric Cooperative Linemen and Black River Technical College (BRTC) alumni Lyndal Hutsell and Craig Weisenbach spoke to BRTC Career and Technical Center (CTC) students recently at both the BRTC Paragould and Pocahontas locations about their careers and experiences as linemen.

They spoke about Ohm’s law, which states that the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage across the two points, that CTC students are learning in the CTC industrial electricity program. The pair also talked about technology used in the field today, including iPads, drones and infrared cameras, and how many people think being a lineman is dangerous work, while in reality most accidents happen from slips, trips, and falls.

Hutsell and Wiesenbach also spoke about the lineman school sponsorship program at ASU-N, while also telling the students that there is a huge demand for linemen right now that will continue to rise in the coming years as more and more linemen retire.
