BRTC Chief of Police

Black River Technical College is seeking qualified applicants for the position of BRTC Chief of Police. This is a full-time, non-classified, 12-month position.

The Chief of Police is responsible for providing oversight of campus police department.  This position is governed by law enforcement standards as applicable by State and Federal regulations and in accordance with the departmental and institutional policies of the College.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise Campus Police staff consisting of certified officers by preparing and assigning work schedules, monitoring work progress, and evaluating job performance.
  • Review various reports and documentation submitted by staff for accuracy and completion and make revision as needed.
  • Compile statistics for departmental and special reports, as requested.
  • Responsible for CLERY Act reporting and maintaining compliance with federal reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate and assist in the planning and implementing of security for special events.
  • Secure buildings and assist in the orderly evacuation of buildings when necessary.
  • Conduct investigations and respond appropriately to more complex and difficult Campus Police situations.
  • Attend classes and workshops necessary to stay current on laws, regulations, policies and procedures, informing staff of any changes.
  • Serve as co-chair of the Emergency Management committee.
  • Maintain law enforcement certifications required for a police officer.
  • Respond to alarms and calls for assistance, investigate crimes, accidents, and reported incidents committed on campus, prepare official reports as needed, and testify in court as required.
  • Attend departmental staff meetings, provide information, and make recommendations on work area operations.
  • Patrol assigned areas to detect and prevent crimes, enforce traffic laws, recognize parking violations, issue traffic citations, and identify safety hazards and violators.
  • Maintain a physical presence on the college campus 

QUALIFICATIONS

The formal education or equivalent of an associate degree plus four years of experience in law enforcement or related area.  Must be certified by an Arkansas Law Enforcement Standards Training Academy as a Police Officer and possess a valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.
