BRTC Board of Trustees Chair Serves as Greene County Election Commissioner

Carolyn Collins, BRTC Board of Trustees Chair and Greene County Election Commissioner

POCAHONTAS, AR April 8—Carolyn Collins, the BRTC Board of Trustees Chair, is serving as an Election Commissioner for Greene County.

Collins was elected to the position by the Greene County Republican Committee and has been serving in this capacity since January 2017. She serves with two other commissioners, one democrat and one republican, in accordance with election laws.

Together, the three commissioners are responsible for all aspects of the election. She and her fellow commissioners attend “Train the Trainer” seminars and are responsible for selecting and training poll workers and securing polling sites. They also perform public testing on the polling machines to ensure they are ready for the election.  After voting starts, it is the commissioners’ responsibility to visit each polling site to make sure voting is going smoothly and all election laws are being followed.

Collins reports that she enjoys serving as an election commissioner. She says her favorite part of her job is “teaching others about the election and easing people’s fears about using a voting machine.” Her advice for the public is to go vote. She states, “it is our God-given right and our responsibility.  If you\’re not registered to vote, do so by April 24 to vote in the May 24 primary election.  If you are in doubt about your registration or haven\’t voted in a while, check it at https://www.voterview.ar-nova.org/VoterView. Make sure your address is correct. If it’s not, you may change it at your County Clerk\’s office.”
