BRTC Academic Counselor Mark Towell attends the 2024 ARKAAN Conference

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Academic Counselor Mark Towell recently attended the Arkansas Academic Advising Network Spring Drive-In Conference (ARKAAN) in Hendrix.

The conference brings together admissions advisors and counselors from across the state to interact through several concurrent sessions held throughout the day. Sessions included information on how advisors can take on the role of teachers with their students, how advisors can help combat mental health challenges experienced by students and themselves and the benefits of holistic advising. The keynote speaker Mr. Isaiah Rucker, Jr. spoke on the importance of words and how they can inspire.

According to arkaaninc.org, the purpose of ARKAAN is to raise the level of recognition of academic advising as a profession and to promote the professional development of academic advisors in higher education in Arkansas.
