Black River Technical College Launches an Esports Program

BRTC\’s New Esports Arena

POCAHONTAS, AR Sept. 8—Black River Technical College has launched an Esports Program for students interested in competitive multiplayer video gaming.

Students interested in the program met for the first time on Monday, August 30. They were given a tour of the newly-designed gaming lab, used for practice, and Esports Arena, used for competition, which are equipped with high-speed gaming systems.  BRTC plans for its Esports Team to begin competing against other colleges in the near future.

Jason Smith, Vice President of Student Affairs, expressed how excited the college is about the launch by stating, “We are proud to offer this new and innovative student life program for our BRTC students. Esports is one of the fastest-growing activities in both Northeast Arkansas and in the United States. Many of the area high schools have recently formed Esports teams and BRTC is excited to bring this cutting-edge activity to the two-year collegiate level.”
