POCAHONTAS, AR Aug. 24 – On Monday, August 9, Dr. Maria Markham, Arkansas Division of Higher Education Director, spoke at Black River Technical College during Faculty and Staff’s Convocation Week.

Dr. Markham spoke about the opportunities and challenges in higher education in Arkansas and fielded questions the faculty and staff had about the upcoming academic year.

Dr. Brad Baine, BRTC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, shared what an honor it was to have Director Markham on campus. He stated, “The BRTC faculty, staff, and administration were delighted to host Dr. Maria Markham on our campus. During Director Markham\’s visit, the BRTC family, in open conversation, received information related to higher education which impacts the mission of Arkansas colleges and universities. We also discussed regional and national trends that will likely impact the education systems in this and surrounding areas. BRTC is grateful to have the support of Dr. Markham and the entire Arkansas Division of Higher Education as we continue to navigate challenges facing institutions of higher education. Colleges and universities in the state of Arkansas are fortunate to have the outstanding leadership of Dr. Markham.”
