A Message from the President

A Message from President Dr. Martin Eggensperger:

Fellow Black Hawks,

Looking ahead to the next few days, you may have noticed that the weather forecast is predicting severe flash flooding in our area. Given our experiences with past floods, including the significant challenges we faced during the levee failures, I feel it’s important to keep you informed.

We are taking this situation very seriously.  The flood mitigation project we recently completed has significantly improved our preparedness for such events.  We’ve worked hard to reduce the risk of flooding, and we remain committed to ensuring a safe environment for everyone.

Our team has been busy preparing our pumps and floodgates for deployment, with staff on standby to respond as needed.

As we anticipate these weather conditions, I encourage you to take a few moments to think about your own safety and preparedness. Here are some gentle reminders:

1. Stay Informed: Keep an eye on local weather reports and updates. Being informed will help you stay one step ahead.

2. Talk It Over: Have a chat with your family or friends about what your plan will be if things get a little rough. Knowing your evacuation routes and having a safe meeting place can bring peace of mind.

3. Gather Essentials: If you haven’t already, make sure you have an emergency kit ready. Include things like water, snacks, medications, and any important documents you might need.

4. Avoid Flooded Areas: Please remember to steer clear of areas that are prone to flooding. If you see water on the roads, it’s best to avoid it altogether—safety first!

5. Listen to Guidance: If local authorities give any instructions or recommendations, please follow them. Your safety is the most important thing, and we want to see you all safe and sound.

We will continue to keep you updated as the situation unfolds. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.   We’re all in this together.

Take care of yourselves and each other.

Please stay safe,

Martin Eggensperger, President
