Baine, Gray, and Smith Attend ACC Conference

Black River Technical College’s (BRTC) Dr. Brad Baine, vice president of academic affairs, Sissy Gray, executive director of institutional effectiveness, and Jason Smith, J.D., vice president of student affairs, recently attended the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) Annual Conference.

The group presented a session called “The Value of Mock Site Visits” and discussed experiences with mock accreditation reviews. These visits are meant to help institutions prepare for upcoming Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accreditation by offering a practice run with colleagues’ experiences in accreditation.

“I have found theses mock visits to be of great benefit to both the institution preparing for an official review and to the mock interviewers themselves,” Smith said.

Along with the BRTC representatives the session panel also had three other administrators from other community colleges in Arkansas. Together they shared their institutional perspective from the point-of-view of the institution undergoing a mock review as well as from the individuals participating as mock reviewers.

“Mock visits encourage a special camaraderie between institutions and provide an excellent opportunity for multiple colleges to work together to ensure the mutual success of each institution,” Gray said.
