BRTC’s Career and Technical Center Students Prepare to Serve as Medical Professionals

POCAHONTAS, AR Mar. 12 –– After weeks of preparation, BRTC’s Career and Technical Center (CTC) Phlebotomy students started venipuncture practice in the classroom last week.

BRTC’s CTC Phlebotomy Program prepares high school juniors and seniors, under the supervision of physicians and other healthcare professionals, to draw blood samples from patients using a variety of invasive procedures. Instruction includes basic vascular anatomy and physiology, blood physiology, skin puncture techniques, venipuncture, venous specimen collection and handling, safety and sanitation procedures, and applicable standards and regulations. Upon successful completion of this program, students earn a certificate of proficiency.
