BRTC Graduation August 11 to Include Drive-In Movie, Mascot Reveal, and Fireworks

POCAHONTAS, AR  June 24 – Black River Technical College graduation to be held August 11 will be unlike any graduation event held across the state.

Due to COVID-19, BRTC students who were to graduate in May 2020 were unable to attend a graduation ceremony.  In order to honor them, BRTC officials announced a ceremony would be held on August 11.

Because social distancing and masking requirements are still in-place but the college wants to allow students to share their achievements with friends and family, BRTC has partnered with James Junction Drive-In Movie Theater to set up a drive-in movie outside the Randolph County Development Center (RCDC) to air the graduation ceremony live.  Students will be socially distanced inside RCDC with some faculty and college administration.  Masks will be provided and students will be safely honored with a traditional graduation.

Outside, friends, family, and the public are invited to watch the ceremonies live on a specially set-up drive-in movie screen provided by James Junction Drive-In Movie Theater.  In the safety of their vehicles, friends and family can watch and hear the entire ceremony.  Graduation ceremonies will take place at 8:00 p.m. on August 11.

Also featured at the celebration will be BRTC’s mascot reveal and a large fireworks show.  Beginning at 7:30 p.m., BRTC will reveal the college’s new mascot image and character.  To celebrate the event, popcorn, corn dogs, and water will be given to all attendees.  Graduates will also receive the very first Black Hawk t-shirt.  After graduation, a large fireworks show will display.

BRTC invites all friends, family, and the public to attend the event.  Parking will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Randolph County Development Center on the Pocahontas campus of BRTC.
