Students Work Together to Update Fountain

Welding, Machine Tool Technology and Auto Collision students all came together to fix a need on Black River Technical College’s Pocahontas campus.

Neal Harwell, Career Counselor, noticed that the fountain between the library and academic building needed a little help.  The fountain is nestled quietly amongst rose bushes but it looked unfinished.  “I knew we had some really talented students on campus that could make the fountain a showpiece,” said Harwell.  He approached welding instructor Ricky Gunn to see if this would be a project his students would want to take on.

The students looked at the fountain and from there they ran with their idea.  They wanted to represent the five rivers in the area.  They then talked to students in Machine Tool Technology because they had the ability cut the plaques with the rivers’ names on them.  They also contacted Auto Collision who then painted the metal bronze.

The fountain now looks complete thanks to some creative ideas, teamwork and a lot of hard work.
