Chief Tackett Accepts Key to BRTC Drug Box Transfer

On July 19, Chief Tackett accepted the key to BRTC’s drug takeback box, a receptacle for unused or expired medications located in the administration building on the Pocahontas campus.

In Spring 2012, the BRTC Student Government Association (SGA) provided the funding for the creation of 2 takeback boxes.  The Randolph County Cornerstone Coalition provided the decals and signage for the box.  BRTC students in 3 different technical programs incorporated the creation of the box and its components into their classes over a 3-year period.

In the 2012-2013 academic school year, BRTC welding students made the box.  In the 2013-2014 academic school year, BRTC machine tool students fabricated the door, hinges, and the special gumball-style drop system to protect the contents of the box.  In the 2014-2015 academic school year, BRTC auto body students painted the box.

The box has been in use since 2015-2016 and was completely full at the time of the key transfer.  BRTC employees, students, and the community are invited to drop any unused or expired medications into the box for proper disposal.
