BRTC Mathematics Instructor Daphne Perkins Named Keynote Speaker for Fall 2023 Commencement

Twenty-year employee and BRTC Mathematics Instructor Daphne Perkins of Lorado has been named the Black River Technical College (BRTC) Fall 2023 commencement keynote speaker.

Perkins was born and raised in Corning, Arkansas. After graduating from Corning High School, she attended Arkansas State University (ASU), earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics in education in 1987. She then went on to earn a Master of Science in mathematics in 1990 from ASU and a Master of Science in statistics from Texas A&M University in 1992.

Perkins has worked in education for 35 years. She has worked as a mathematics instructor at Swifton High School, Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, North Carolina, and Arkansas State University Jonesboro. She also worked at Arkansas State University-Beebe as a Student Development Specialist.

Perkins is currently serving BRTC as Mathematics Department chair and as a Mathematics Instructor. In addition to teaching, Perkins has served BRTC in the following capacities: Title IX Investigator; a member of the Employee Activities Board, Program Review Committee, Curriculum Committee, Criterion 2 Steering Committee, Advising Guidebook Taskforce, Arkansas Strong Start to Finish initiative; Phi Theta Kappa advisor; Future Educators Association advisor, and as a state delegate of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.

She has been married to her husband Robert for 34 years and the pair have three children, Wesley, Jacob, and Nikkolette.
