BRTC Hosts Holocaust Survivor Susan (Hilsenrath) Warsinger

Black River Technical College, in collaboration with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM), will host Holocaust survivor Susan (Hilsenrath) Warsinger for three presentations on Tuesday, October 28 and Wednesday, October 29.  Warsinger will be speaking at 9:30 a.m. both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening.  All presentations will be held in the Randolph County Development Center auditorium on the BRTC Pocahontas campus.

Warsinger was born May 27, 1929, in Bad Kreuznach, Germany.   The family’s windows and furnishings were smashed during the Nazi raid known as Kristallnacht which occurred on November 9 and 10, 1938.  Warsinger and her brother, Joseph, were smuggled into France months later.

Warsinger’s presentation will include what happened to her brother and her after being smuggled into France.  Their journey includes a temporary stay in Louis XIV’s palace.  Eventually, they received permission to immigrate to the United States where they were reunited with their parents.

When Warsinger was asked why she volunteers at the USHMM her response was, “How can I not go?  I experienced some of this horror.  I am compelled by my conscience, and I am honored to join the educational movement this Museum represents.”
