BRTC Adult Education Program is Top in State for Educational Gains

According to the Arkansas Department of Career Education, BRTC’s Adult Education program had the highest percentage of educational gains for any Arkansas adult education or literacy council program with under 500 students for the 2015-16 school year.  The department is administrated by Director Tammie Lemmons.

An educational gain is made when a student enrolls in BRTC’s Adult Education program at one grade level in reading, math and language and moves up to a higher level. This gauge includes earned GEDs.

The primary goal of most students enrolled in an adult education program is to earn a GED.  Students also enroll in BRTC’s Adult Education for college-prep in order to better prepare for college.

Individuals age 18 and over may enroll in BRTC’s Adult Education program.  Occasionally individuals age 16 and 17, upon being released from high school or who home-schooled and complete an interview process and initial academic assessment, may enroll.

In the 2015-16 school year, BRTC served 237 individuals, enrolled 147 students (attended 12 or more hours), and saw 41 GED graduates.

BRTC’s Adult Education program serves Randolph, Lawrence, and Clay counties with classrooms in Pocahontas at BRTC, in Walnut Ridge at the Walnut Ridge Community Center, in Corning, and in Rector.  BRTC is also assuming leadership over the Greene County adult education program.
