Ag Student wins College Bookstore Survey and is Inducted into PTK

April 5^th was a busy day for Jodi Davis of Paragould.  She took advantage of early registration and became the very first student to enroll in Black River Technical College’s new Agriculture Program for which classes begin this fall.

BRTC and Arkansas State University have an articulation which will allow any student who earns an Associate of Science in Agriculture at BRTC to be admitted seamlessly into the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with emphasis in Agricultural Business at ASU as a junior. Davis plans to transfer to ASU after finishing at BRTC.

Davis went on to win $50 from the BRTC Bookstore after taking the National Association of College Stores (NACS) survey, which gives students the opportunity to express their preferences regarding class room computers, e-books, paper textbooks, and their overall college experience. The survey is open to currently enrolled students in October and February and awards $50 to one winner each semester.  Winners of BRTC’s survey are also entered into a national drawing in which they can win $1,000.  Spring 2016 is the fifth year in which BRTC has participated in this survey.

Davis ended the day by being one of thirty students to be inducted into BRTC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.  In order to be considered for admission Davis and the other students must have completed at least twelve credit hours and maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average.  PTK membership centers on cultivating the hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service in its members.  This is done by choosing an honors study topic, which is then studied by members and developed into an Honors in Action project.
