This FREE 4-day Youth Academy is open to all students entering grades 10-12 and will focus on the technologies in our local industries. The participants will be exposed to plant tours, hands-on workshops, and classroom activities all focusing on the specific industry and technology. Participants will explore how manufacturing has changed over the years to the lean, clean, high skill, high-tech industry it is today with hands-on activities.

New to Pickling? Ever made Preserves? Whether you’re a prepper, a new homesteader, or a backyard gardener this class is for you!
Our instructors will provide all necessary items including the produce to conduct this hands-on 3-hour event allowing participants to make their own pickles and preserves. Learn techniques to jar your own pickles and other techniques to jar preserves.
Pickling is the process of preserving edible products in a solution such as vinegar or salt (brine). This can include dill pickles, onions, relish or any food that is preserved with an acid.
Preserves refer to fruit or vegetables that have been canned or jarred for long-term storage. This method is commonly done with boiling water and pressure canning to make jams and jellies.

Woodworking for the Homestead
Want to learn about woodworking? Want to learn some basics on creating woodworking items for the home? Are you wanting to build your own structure? This may be the class for you.
You will learn the purpose and use of many woodworking tools. Determine how to select the appropriate wood. Design and setup your workshop and workshop safety. Learn different woodworking joints and how to create them.
Demonstrations will be conducted in an outdoor mobile trailer on the theme of ‘Woodworking for the Homestead’ showing how to make saddle notches for a cabin, mortise and tenon joints for a timber-framed structure, and board and batten siding.
Other tools on-hand for demonstrations will be a two-man cutting saw and a log.

Blacksmithing for the Homestead
Have you thought of becoming a blacksmith and need to know more about it? Interested in a past skill or new trade or hobby? Geared for beginners with little or no experience, this 4-hour course will cover shop safety, fire, tools and equipment, basic forging skills, use of the anvil, and hammer control. This is an outdoor event.
Demonstrations will be conducted by the NEA Blacksmiths showing use making of nails, spoons, ladles, skillets, etc. Participation is encouraged but not required.

Motorcycle Safety and Maneuvers
This advanced class is designed for the experienced rider needing to enhance their motorcycle skills while performing riding maneuvers. This 4-hour course will Include low-level maintenance of your motorcycle and several riding exercises to teach various skills and techniques designed to bolster your confidence on the road.
Class will be held during sun or rain so watch the weather and bring your rain gear if necessary. In the event of heavy rain or severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances, the class would be canceled or postponed. The class will be held in light mild rain as your motorcycles will have enough traction on wet surfaces to perform the skills exercises.

- Approximately 170 cones will be setup at BRTC to practice maneuvers such as U-Turns (right and left), Circles, Intersections, Weaves and more.
Requirements

- Motorcycle license
- Their own bike, helmet
- over-the-ankel boots
- eyewear.
- Appropriate attire such as jeans, long-sleeved riding jacket (preferred) or shirts, and gloves.
- Rain gear in the event of mild light rain.
