Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently hosted its annual Arkansas Division of Higher Education (ADHE) concurrent instructor professional development training.
Approximately 40 concurrent instructors spent part of the day in break-out sessions led by their BRTC faculty liaisons discussing discipline-specific content, syllabi, course outcomes, and assessments.
BRTC procedures and policies were reviewed by Director of Career, Technical, and Concurrent Education Darenda Kersey. Director of Distance Education Regina Moore presented education about various technologies available, such as Moodle and Turnitin. A short session explaining assessments was also held. Lunch was provided by the Black River Grill.
The BRTC Concurrent program currently partners with 15 high schools; Paragould High School being the newest partnership made for the upcoming 23-24 academic year.
Concurrent enrollment is open to any student who has successfully completed the 8th grade and is enrolled in an Arkansas public or home school. Tuition is heavily discounted with a 3-credit hour course costing only $125.
Also, the Concurrent Challenge Scholarship is available to tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders. This scholarship will cover the cost of two 3-credit hour courses, each semester. Students should visit with their high school counselor to enroll in concurrent credit courses.
