Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin’s Office hosted educational police training at Black River Technical College Tuesday.
Hamilton Township, Ohio Chief of Police and nationally recognized law enforcement instructor Major Scott Hughes gave an interactive presentation entitled “Legally Justified: But was it Avoidable?” to 70 law enforcement officers from across the state of Arkansas.
The training analyzed dozens of recent use of force videos and focused on the totality of the interaction between citizens and law enforcement officers. Hughes dissected the behavior of the offender, and the thoughts and behavioral processes of the officer(s) involved.
Officers received seven hours of Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST) credit for their attendance to the training.
According to calibreprss.com, Major Scott Hughes began his law enforcement career at the age of 16 when he joined a law enforcement explorer program. Scott remained active in the program until the age of 21 when he entered the police academy. He currently serves as a Major with the Riverside, OH Police Department. Before his employment with Riverside, Scott worked for an agency in Southwest, OH as a road patrol Sergeant, Traffic Safety Officer, Field Training Officer, and supervisor of the agency’s Street Crimes Unit.
Scott is a police academy Commander and Advanced Law Enforcement Training Coordinator at a regional training facility as well as a certified instructor through the Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Commission. Major Hughes has been recognized as a subject matter expert by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission in traffic stops.
Major Hughes studied Organizational Leadership at University of Charleston and is a graduate of The Supervisor Training and Education program as well as The Police Executive Leadership College, both affiliated with the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police.
According to the Hamilton Township, Warren County, Ohio Facebook page, Chief Hughes is married to his wife Katie and has two amazing children, Camden (6) and Crosley (4). He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Charleston and is a Certified Law Enforcement Executive with the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police.
He loves the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds. He enjoys playing ball with his son and watching his daughter at ballet. Chief Hughes is a nationally recognized Law Enforcement instructor. During his off-time he trains Law Enforcement agencies throughout the United States and Canada. He is a recognized subject matter expert in several disciplines and has trained numerous agencies for nearly two decades.
